Burkina Faso’s Security Minister Mahamadou Sana says some nationals expelled from Guinea suffered treatment he described as cruel and may have been shot and injured. He made the statements on 4 November 2026 in Bamako, where a Burkinabè delegation was assessing their situation, according to Netafrique.
Burkina Faso’s Security Minister, Mahamadou Sana, said on Wednesday 4 November 2026 in Bamako that Burkinabè nationals expelled from Guinea may have been shot and injured. He also reported treatment that he described as cruel, inhuman and degrading, according to Netafrique.
Mahamadou Sana criticised the Guinean authorities for not informing Burkina Faso and Mali in advance of the expulsion operation. This lack of communication allegedly prevented the two countries from organising the reception and support of those concerned beforehand, he said.
A Burkinabè delegation led by Mahamadou Sana travelled to Bamako to assess the situation of the expelled nationals, provide them with assistance and facilitate their return to Burkina Faso. Mali provided humanitarian assistance and the Burkina Faso embassy in Bamako is supporting the nationals concerned, according to Netafrique.
The statements come after the organisation of the return of thousands of nationals expelled from Guinea, announced on 4 November. They follow the arrival in Kouremalé on 5 November of more than 8,000 people expelled from Guinea.
