About AFREEQUE

AFREEQUE follows the news from Africa, country by country and region by region, every day on this site — in French and in English.

Where our news comes from

Most of the stories you read on AFREEQUE come from newspapers, news agencies, radio and television stations and online publications all over the African continent. We follow the reporting of more than 300 media organisations in 54 countries, in their own languages — French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili, Hausa, Somali and more. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of reporting, analysis and debate published by the influential media of every country.

They include public broadcasters and national news agencies as well as the growing number of independent, professional news organisations across the continent. In this way, we give access to what Africans themselves are reporting — information that is valuable to policymakers, businesses, non-governmental organisations, researchers and journalists, as well as to the general public. We also follow the international media that cover Africa closely.

Every AFREEQUE article is a short brief written by our newsroom from the original report. It names the outlet the information comes from and links to the original article. AFREEQUE does not republish their articles: the media we cite retain the copyright of their reporting and remain responsible for it; AFREEQUE is responsible for its summaries.

At the bottom of this page is the list of the media we follow, country by country, with a link to their websites.

How our articles are written

Each brief is written from the text published by the source, then checked before it goes online: language, country, topic, duplicates and news value. We stick to the facts, figures and people the source cites, and add neither opinion nor information the source does not contain. Our summaries are produced with the help of artificial intelligence tools, under AFREEQUE’s editorial responsibility.

The English edition is translated from our French briefs, with the original article at hand: when the source wrote in English, its wording of names and quotes is kept.

Our editorial line

We cover the whole continent without favouring any region. We select what has consequences for the people who live there: political decisions, security, the economy and prices, health, energy, justice, sport and culture. Our headlines state the fact, never a vague teaser.

Corrections
