Guinea’s Minister of Territorial Administration has dismissed 479 district and neighbourhood presidents in Siguiri, accusing them of facilitating illegal gold panning and the degradation of land and natural resources. Legal proceedings have been announced against those involved, according to the ministerial decision signed on 3 November 2026.
Guinea’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation dismissed 479 district and neighbourhood presidents in the administrative region of Siguiri, in north-eastern Guinea. The decision, signed on 3 November 2026, accuses them of facilitating illegal gold panning, artisanal and semi-artisanal gold mining, as well as the degradation of land, water and natural resources, reports Guinee360.
The officials are also accused of housing and employing foreigners in an irregular situation. The Department of Territorial Administration has announced legal proceedings against those involved in accommodating and settling these people as part of clandestine gold-panning activities.
The first vice-presidents will replace the dismissed officials to ensure the continuity of public services in the districts and neighbourhoods concerned. The measure comes after the removal of 22 administrators in Siguiri, announced on 3 November, and the ban on gold panning in the region’s waterways, published on 2 November in the decision on Siguiri’s waterways.
