Former Senegalese Economy Minister Abdourahmane Sarr has called for the country’s financing strategy to be reformed after the National Assembly rejected the 2026 supplementary finance bill. In a text published on X on Tuesday 3 November, he praised the parliamentary debate and advocated more transparent management of public finances, according to SeneNews.
Abdourahmane Sarr believes Senegal must establish its economic trajectory using verifiable budget data and sovereignly assume its financing choices. He says he recommended building the supplementary budget on the basis of actual expenditure execution, using public investment in 2025 as a reference in particular.
The former minister also linked the debate to the division of roles between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and the president of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko. The rejection of the 2026 supplementary budget followed parliamentary discussions on the bill.
