SENTERMINO hands over 5,000 language entries in Dakar

The SENTERMINO project handed Senegalese Education Minister Moustapha Mamba Guirassy resources containing more than 5,000 entries in Wolof, Pulaar and Seereer. Dictionaries, reference sheets and booklets will support bilingual education and the translation of specialised concepts, according to Thieydakar.

The SENTERMINO project has handed over more than 5,000 terminology entries in Wolof, Pulaar and Seereer to Senegal’s Minister of National Education, Moustapha Mamba Guirassy. The handover took place at the opening of a review workshop at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, according to Thieydakar.

The resources consist of dictionaries, reference sheets and booklets intended in particular for teachers and pupils. They are designed to facilitate bilingual education and the translation of scientific, technological and professional concepts under Senegal’s Harmonised Model of Bilingual Education (MOHEBS).

The project is led by the Fundamental Institute of Black Africa. An extension, called SENTERMINO-EDSAN, is planned for 2027-2029 and is expected to cover six national languages and new fields of knowledge. In November 2025, the Ziguinchor Academic Inspectorate organised training to prepare education stakeholders for MOHEBS.
