The Republic of the Congo opened a week-long workshop in Brazzaville on 2 November to examine and validate a guide setting standards for pre-primary education facilities. The work, launched by Jean-Luc Mouthou, Minister of Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary Education and Literacy, is due to end on 6 November, reports Brazza-Infos.

The guide is intended to set out requirements for the safety, hygiene, protection and support of young children. Participants have been invited to propose adjustments in order to produce a text suited to the Congolese education system, which will also clarify the responsibilities of institutions, teachers and private partners.

The provisions under review also cover premises, accident prevention, the organisation of activities and educational monitoring. The authorities want to harmonise reception rules and strengthen learning conditions from the earliest years of schooling.
