Negotiations between the Congolese government and Marien Ngouabi University unions have provisionally put salary arrears for four months at 15.5 billion CFA francs. The unions still need to consult their members on a possible suspension of the strike, while registration for new baccalaureate graduates and seven entrance examinations is being prepared, according to Brazza Infos.

Salary arrears owed in 2026 to workers at Marien Ngouabi University in Brazzaville are provisionally estimated at 15.5 billion CFA francs, equivalent to four months of unpaid wages. The government presented the figure when negotiations resumed with the trade union group, Brazza Infos reports.

The estimate still needs to be checked by the financial services, including the Ministry of Finance, before it becomes a quantified commitment. The unions must also consult their members before deciding whether to suspend the strike. At this stage, they have agreed to register new baccalaureate graduates and candidates for the seven entrance examinations, without confirming that the exams will take place.

These discussions follow the government’s negotiations with the unions, after a strike notice over seven months of unpaid wages was published on 5 October. The government is represented by Pierre Mabiala, Minister of State for the Civil Service, Labour and Social Dialogue, and Edith Delphine Emmanuel Adouki, Minister of Higher Education.
