Cardinal Dieudonné Nzapalainga met parents of pupils at Saint-Hubert School in Ndjo, where children’s involvement in mining and farming activities is affecting attendance. Parents pledged to encourage their children to attend regularly, Centra News reports.

Marina Yemeni, coordinator of the village school, said some pupils take part in mining activities or work in the fields with their parents, at the expense of their education. Parents acknowledged these difficulties and pledged to encourage their children to attend school regularly, Centra News reports.

Toukou Benjamin, a neighbourhood chief in Ndjo, called for the creation of a secondary school so that children could continue their studies beyond the final year of primary school. Yemeni said the request was important, while noting that such a school would require, among other things, the recruitment of teachers and additional material and organisational resources.
