Mercenaries from the Wagner group have set up a base at Boromata’s school in the Central African Vakaga prefecture, preventing pupils from using their classrooms for a week. Village authorities have asked them to leave, but classes are continuing outdoors, Corbeau News Centrafrique reports.

Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group have occupied Boromata’s school in the Central African Vakaga prefecture for a week, preventing pupils from attending classes. Community leaders have asked them to vacate the buildings, but the fighters have refused, Corbeau News Centrafrique reports.

Pupils now have to attend classes under trees. The mercenaries set up their base at the school after leaving Birao and advancing towards the Chadian border, according to the Central African outlet.

Wagner has also established a position in Sarajevo, a village about two kilometres from Tissi, on the Chadian side. Sarajevo is almost deserted, Corbeau News Centrafrique reports.

The occupation of the school comes amid tensions between Bangui and N’Djamena, after the Central African government accused Chad of preparing to destabilise it on 27 October. It follows the abduction of two young people in Ndiffa, attributed to Wagner and reported on 29 October in the north-east of the Central African Republic.
