Russian Wagner mercenaries beat and robbed civilians on the Sikikédé-Ndah road in north-eastern Central African Republic. During checks targeting motorcyclists, traders and travellers, they reportedly seized phones, money and gold nuggets, according to an investigation by Corbeaunews Centrafrique.

Wagner men beat and robbed civilians on the Sikikédé-Ndah road in north-eastern Central African Republic on Saturday 24 October, according to an investigation by Corbeaunews Centrafrique. During a check about 15 kilometres from Sikikédé, they confiscated phones, money and gold nuggets from passers-by, including motorcyclists, traders and travellers.

The fighters had set up a roadblock on the route to the Chadian border. Hundreds of motorbikes were stopped. Wagner men accused those detained of passing information about their units’ positions to rebel groups, without establishing their involvement in these activities, the Central African media reports.

The violence took place after several days of movements by Russian fighters in the country’s north-east. Men based in Kaga-Bandoro were transported to Ndélé on Thursday and Friday, before moving towards Sikikédé.

These incidents follow traffic being blocked by Wagner vehicles in Zawa, reported on 21 October. On 14 October, Marie-Reine Hassen accused Wagner of predation in the Central African Republic.
