Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, announced stepped-up operations against crime in the Centre region at a meeting held in Yaoundé on 26 October 2026. He cited femicides, assaults and drug trafficking among the problems identified, according to Alwihda Info.
Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, announced that the hunt for criminals would be stepped up in the Centre region at a security assessment meeting held in Yaoundé on 26 October 2026, Alwihda Info reported. He cited rising crime, femicides, assaults and drug trafficking among the worrying incidents reported in the region.
Administrative authorities will coordinate the intensification, while the minister called on residents to cooperate with the defence and security forces. The meeting brought together, among others, the governor of the Centre region, Naseri Paul Béa, the mayor of Yaoundé, the prefects of the ten departments and regional security officials.
Motorbike taxis will have to comply with the ban on selling a vehicle without a registration plate and speed up their registration process, launched in 2023. Taxis will also have to display their badges, in line with an initiative by the mayor of Yaoundé, to tackle assaults, according to Alwihda Info.
The meeting took place on the same day as the announcement by Paul Atanga Nji of the authorities’ mobilisation against insecurity in Cameroon. It was the first assessment of this kind organised after the October 2025 presidential election, according to the minister.
