In Namibia, year-end examinations will finish on 11 November, and parents are being urged to support their children’s preparation. Salome Kambala, vice-president of the Namibian Parents’ Association in Education, has asked them to reduce household chores and distractions to make time for revision, The Namibian reports.

She recommends that families provide a quiet place, regular study hours, enough food and suitable clothing. Parents should also listen to pupils, respond to their needs and seek help from teachers when necessary, according to The Namibian.

Parent Paulus Mbangu believes pupils can still take part in household chores, but their time should be managed during the examination period. Teacher Mingan Wilbard advises arranging extra lessons with teachers’ support and cautions against putting pressure on pupils based solely on their academic results. In his view, families should encourage children without threatening them or making them believe their worth depends on their grades.
