Eswatini comedian Ciniso Gamedze, known as Darren, is pursuing a solo career after his creative partnership with Bongiswa Masondo ended. He reflects on the professional and emotional uncertainty of the split, as well as his journey in comedy and dance, according to the Times of Eswatini.

Eswatini comedian Darren, the stage name of Ciniso Gamedze, is pursuing his career alone after his artistic partnership with Bongiswa Masondo, known as Fohlas, came to an end. The pair had built the comedy brand Angisati Ngitsin, according to the Times of Eswatini.

Darren said he had tried to save their collaboration when he learned it was due to end. He also recounted telling his manager that he had been fired, only to discover that his manager had also lost his job, the Times of Eswatini reports.

The separation had a significant emotional impact on the comedian, who said he cried after the split. But one piece of advice helped him look ahead: even if the partnership could be taken away from him, his talent remained his own.

Born and raised in Mbikwake, Matsapha, Darren turned to comedy after seeing local performer Gedlembane on stage. His humour, inspired by the culture of working-class neighbourhoods in his country, is presented at various venues, while he also works as a professional dancer.
