Mdzimba View Shisanyama restaurant in Mbabane, Eswatini, has banned beanies on its premises following incidents involving people wearing them and complaints from customers. Management says the measure responds to security concerns and was decided collectively, according to the Times of Eswatini.
The restaurant’s marketing manager, Sakhile Dlamini, explained that some visitors had associated the beanies with criminal activity and said they felt uncomfortable or unsafe. Management said the ban was not an accusation against everyone who wears one.
The restaurant also rejected speculation that the rule was Dlamini’s personal initiative, as he had only recently joined the team. It said it did not judge customers by their social background or style of dress, including Dickies clothing, All-Star trainers or earrings.
