New exit polls put centrist Gadi Eisenkot level with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the Israeli election. Eisenkot, whose bloc was initially projected to lead, said he wanted to form a government and avoid another election, France 24 reports.

New exit polls put centrist Gadi Eisenkot level with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, France 24 reports. The first projections, published after Tuesday’s election, had given Gadi Eisenkot’s bloc a slight lead.

On Tuesday night into Wednesday, the centrist leader said he wanted to form a government and oppose holding another election, according to France 24. Earlier projections put the opposition on 52 to 53 seats, short of a majority in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.

The new tally comes after the 27 October election, held to choose between Benjamin Netanyahu and Gadi Eisenkot, and marked by turnout of 16.7% in the first three hours of voting. The results giving the opposition 52 to 53 seats did not give it a parliamentary majority.
