Enugu State Police have arrested Ugbor Paul, 30, suspected of serial rape, armed robbery and sexual extortion targeting women in Enugu. According to the police spokesperson, the investigation describes victims being lured to isolated locations and videos found on the suspect’s phone.

The Enugu State Police in south-east Nigeria have arrested Ugbor Paul, 30, who is suspected of serial rape, armed robbery and sexual extortion targeting POS operators and young women in the Enugu metropolis. The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday by Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson for the Enugu Police Command, according to Punch.

According to preliminary investigations cited by Ndukwe, the suspect lured POS operators to isolated locations under the pretext of carrying out large transactions, before robbing and sexually assaulting them. He is also alleged to have used a fake Facebook account in the name of “Franklin Umeh” to trap victims. A phone found when he was arrested contained several explicit videos and nude photographs of identified and unidentified victims, according to the police.

The police attribute to him, among other offences, the assault of a 20-year-old POS operator on 21 May, during which 600,000 naira was stolen, and the assault of a 21-year-old woman on 4 October, from whom he allegedly stole 100,000 naira and a phone after raping her. He then allegedly demanded 200,000 naira not to release the recorded images. The investigation is continuing and the suspect will be brought before the courts when it is concluded, Daniel Ndukwe said, calling on other victims to come forward.
