Fatima Masussuka recounts how her husband, Islamic preacher Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, was shot dead in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, after leaving to teach pupils. The armed group Ansaru claimed responsibility, while President Bola Tinubu ordered a manhunt for those responsible, Punch reports.
Hajiya Fatima Masussuka said her husband, Muslim preacher Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, was shot dead on Monday evening outside their home in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, the Nigerian daily Punch reports. She explained that he was leaving to teach his pupils when she returned to fetch a bag he had forgotten, then heard four gunshots. His wife’s account was collected by journalists at their residence on Tuesday.
Katsina police confirmed the deaths of the preacher and his friend Adamu Abubakar, who were killed in the attack on 26 October at around 7.30pm. Its spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, said police had not authenticated Ansaru’s claim. The armed group linked to al-Qaeda said in an audio message that it had killed the religious leader at around 8.30pm. Ansaru accused him of being an infidel, without providing verifiable evidence of its responsibility.
The killing prompted calls for an investigation from the governor of Katsina and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The governor called for an investigation, while Tinubu ordered the arrest of those allegedly responsible and an investigation into the attack.
