Senegalese mediation seeks inclusive political solution in Guinea-Bissau

Senegal’s ECOWAS-mandated mission to mediate the crisis in Guinea-Bissau is seeking a peaceful and inclusive political solution. After meeting authorities, parties and civil society representatives on 27 October 2026, it will submit its assessments and proposals to the organisation’s competent bodies, O Democrata reports.

Senegal’s mediation mission in Guinea-Bissau wants to contribute to a peaceful and inclusive political solution, while respecting the country’s sovereignty and its people’s aspirations, Senegal’s Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad announced on Tuesday evening.

The delegation’s conclusions and proposals will be submitted to the competent bodies of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to guide the next steps in the mediation. Led by Senegalese diplomat Cheikh Niang, the mission met Prime Minister Ilídio Vieira Té, Transitional Council President Tomás Djassi, and representatives of several political parties and civil society, according to the statement.

The consultations notably brought together the PAIGC, MADEM-G15, PRS, APU-PDGB, PTG and FREPASNA, as well as dissidents and internal factions of several parties. The delegation promised to continue its discussions impartially and with the aim of helping restore constitutional order and political stability, according to the Senegalese ministry.

The mission follows ECOWAS’s dialogue with political actors in Guinea-Bissau, organised under the mandate given to Senegal, which holds the rotating presidency of the regional organisation.
