A Sudanese Armed Forces drone strike hit a market and a civilian neighbourhood in Nyala, killing 36 people, including 21 in civilian clothes, according to the university hospital supported by Médecins Sans Frontières. More than 150 injured people were also treated there after the 26 October attack, the humanitarian organisation reports.
A drone strike by the Sudanese Armed Forces killed 36 people and injured more than 150 on 26 October at a market in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, at around 8pm. Nyala University Hospital, supported by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), received the bodies, including those of 21 people dressed in civilian clothes, and admitted the wounded, according to MSF.
A second strike hit a residential neighbourhood in the city. Dale Koninckx, MSF’s project coordinator in Nyala, said the wounded had injuries including shrapnel wounds and severe burns. Residents brought them to hospital in tuk-tuks and donkey carts, while medical teams treated patients, including women and children.
The attack came ten days after a drone strike on Al-Mawashi market in Nyala killed at least four people on 16 October. MSF says the attacks expose civilians to violence and disrupt access to food and supplies, as malnutrition worsens. The organisation is calling on all parties to the conflict to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
