Kenya’s electoral commission suspends the Migwani Ward by-election in Kitui County after an interim High Court order. The measure will remain in force for 30 days, until the constitutional petition hearing set for 11 November, according to a notice issued by the electoral commission.
Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended the Migwani Ward by-election in Kitui County after an interim order from the Kitui High Court. The commission announced the suspension in a public notice published on Tuesday 27 October 2026, Tuko reports.
Issued on 22 October, the order blocks the vote for 30 days pending consideration of a constitutional petition filed by Francis Musili Kauta against the IEBC and three other respondents. The hearing is scheduled for 11 November. The suspension halts all electoral operations in the ward, where the vote was intended to fill a vacant seat in the Mwingi West constituency. A new date will depend on the court proceedings.
The IEBC asked residents and affected parties to take note of the suspension and said further information would be issued through its official channels.
