Kenya’s Panel of Experts tasked with compensating victims of human rights violations will stop receiving claims on 14 November 2026. Applications submitted before the deadline will be verified before decisions are made, and the programme covers deaths, injuries, sexual violence and economic losses, reports Kenyans.co.ke.
The Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Human Rights Violations, which reviews compensation claims from victims of human rights violations in Kenya, will stop accepting new claims on 14 November 2026, according to a panel statement reported by Kenyans.co.ke. Those affected are urged to submit their claims before the deadline.
Claims received by the deadline, including those already submitted, will be checked and authenticated before a decision is made. The programme covers deaths, injuries, sexual violence and economic losses linked to violations, including those that occurred during protests. The panel says claimants will be informed of the results after the assessment.
On 8 October, during the programme’s sixth phase, the panel approved 83.65 million Kenyan shillings for 259 claims. This instalment included 35 million for 35 people who had sustained serious injuries and 27 million for 54 people who had sustained moderate injuries. The programme was launched after President William Ruto announced a public allocation of two billion shillings to compensate victims of protests between 2013 and 2025.
