A man was arrested in Nairobi after spending 6,744,354 Kenyan shillings mistakenly paid into his account while processing 74 company payments. Financial crime investigators accuse him of offences including cybercrime and money laundering, Tuko reports.

A man was arrested in Westlands, Nairobi, on Saturday 24 October 2026 after spending 6,744,354 Kenyan shillings transferred to his account by mistake, according to Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The error dates back to 18 November 2025, during the processing of a batch of 74 electronic payments. Rent of 72,000 shillings owed to the suspect for a company shop in Suswa was paid with funds intended for another company. The DCI says the man had already used the excess amount when the company requested its repayment.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions reviewed the file submitted by investigators and requested that proceedings be initiated. The suspect faces two charges linked to the intentional retention of a payment received by mistake and money laundering. He was processed by police on Sunday 25 October, pending his court appearance.
