The man is in hospital and the suspect is due to be handed over to the state’s criminal investigation unit, while police say they recovered the knife allegedly used.

Bauchi State police have arrested Fatima Dalha, 18, suspected of stabbing her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during an argument in the village of Lirr Bajar, in the Dass local government area. The incident occurred at around 6am on Sunday, over issues involving money, a telephone and cloth garments, Bauchi police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Nafi’u Habib told the Aminiya news outlet.

According to Nafi’u Habib, the argument escalated into a confrontation when Fatima Dalha demanded her belongings from her husband. The injured man, who was losing blood, was taken to hospital, where he is still receiving treatment. Police intervened to protect the suspect from a crowd trying to attack her and recovered the knife said to have been used as the weapon.

The case is to be transferred to Bauchi’s Serious Crimes Investigation Section for further examination. The state police commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged people to settle disputes peacefully and not take the law into their own hands, according to Nafi’u Habib.
