Aishatu Jafaar Suleiman, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board’s desk officer for robotic education in Nigeria, has called for more teacher training. She made the call on Monday in Abuja during a sensitisation programme organised by the Change a Child Community Initiative association at two secondary schools, according to Daily Trust.
Suleiman praised school renovations and the provision of teaching materials under the administration of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, but said teachers’ professional development needed to be strengthened. She said she was personally taking and funding online courses useful to her work.
Blessing Okwuchukwu Awamba, founder and education officer of the Change a Child Community Initiative, said the programme aimed to pass on values to pupils that were considered necessary for national development. Planned to run for five years, it is to be extended to several Nigerian states; some have already been selected as beneficiaries.
