The APC chapter in Nigeria’s Kaduna State has called on former vice-president Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election and support Bola Tinubu. Its spokesperson, Mohammed Sani Haruna, cited turnout at a party rally to claim that the North prefers the incumbent president, according to Daily Trust.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secretary for communications in Kaduna State, Mohammed Sani Haruna, on Monday 26 October called on former Nigerian vice-president Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election and support President Bola Tinubu. He said the turnout at the APC campaign launch rally in Kaduna had shown that northern Nigeria now favoured the incumbent president, according to Nigerian newspaper Daily Trust.

Mohammed Sani Haruna presented Saturday’s large turnout as evidence of growing support for Bola Tinubu in the region. He also urged Atiku Abubakar, who is approaching 80, to abandon another bid, saying another defeat could increase his political embarrassment, according to Daily Trust.

The APC spokesperson in Kaduna rejected allegations that images of the crowd had been generated by artificial intelligence or that attendees had been paid. He said thousands of supporters had arrived before the rally began and some had waited several hours to get into the stadium, according to Daily Trust.

The call comes after the launch of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Kaduna on 24 October and statements by the APC chief on Nigeria’s support for Tinubu’s re-election, published on 25 October.
