Gambia’s Omar Sanyang says GALA serves citizens, not opposition

Omar Sanyang says GALA, a Gambian organisation, defends citizens’ interests rather than those of opposition parties. The position distinguishes its role from that of political parties, Kerr Fatou reports.
Omar Sanyang, secretary general of Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA), rejects accusations that the movement serves the interests of opposition parties. He says GALA’s campaign is aimed at accountability and the interests of Gambian citizens, Kerr Fatou reports.
Mr Sanyang nevertheless acknowledges the political nature of GALA’s work, while saying it does not amount to support for a political party. The movement has, among other things, campaigned for Gambian President Adama Barrow to answer questions about the assets of former leader Yahya Jammeh.
