Talib Ahmed Bensouda, mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council and the Coalition 2026 candidate in Gambia’s presidential election, says his administration has built five markets, seven football pitches and a municipal library, Kerr Fatou reports. He presented this record at a rally for his coalition in Bakoteh, in response to criticism by Youth and Sports Minister Bakary Y. Badjie.
Bensouda also highlighted the municipal waste management initiative Mbalit, improvements to the Bakoteh dump, tyre recycling and a composting project at the Bakau Women’s Garden. He says Mbalit serves as a model for other local councils in the country.
The candidate also promised that a Coalition 2026 government would review public contracts it considers unfavourable to Gambian businesses and could terminate them. He also predicted that President Adama Barrow would lose the December 2026 presidential election.
The remarks form part of Bensouda’s campaign, following his defence of peaceful protests without a permit on 23 October and his proposal to withdraw the regional force ECOMIG from Gambia on 25 October. The defence of peaceful protests without a permit and the withdrawal of ECOMIG from Gambia are among his recent statements.
