Gambian opposition leader Ousainu Darboe says a decisive victory for his United Democratic Party in Brikama and the West Coast Region would allow him to win the presidency. At a fundraiser, he also urged new members to mobilise voters, reports Kerr Fatou.

United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainu Darboe has presented Brikama and the West Coast Region as decisive areas for his party’s presidential ambitions in Gambia. “If the UDP wins decisively here, we will take State House,” he said on Sunday at a fundraiser organised by women vendors at Brikama market, according to Kerr Fatou.

Darboe welcomed activists who had recently joined the UDP, led by Satou Badjie, who left the ruling National People’s Party (NPP). He asked them to mobilise voters in their villages and neighbourhoods, particularly among their former NPP colleagues. He also presented the UDP as an alternative to the country’s economic difficulties and called on Gambians to make their choice at the ballot box.

The UDP signed an agreement with Anda Jubbanti Rewmi on 20 September ahead of Gambia’s presidential election, an earlier stage of the campaign reported in the announcement of the agreement.
