The Alimosho Founders Advisory Council, AFAC 79, wants to reconcile factions of the All Progressives Congress in the Lagos constituency. Its president Ade Babalola says the initiative should prevent another party split and strengthen its ability to face the opposition, according to Punch.
The Alimosho Founders Advisory Council (AFAC 79) wants to bring together rival factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, in the local Alimosho constituency in Lagos. Its president, Ade Babalola, presented the initiative at the council’s launch in Lagos on Friday, reports The Punch.
Babalola explained that the group had been created in response to disagreements among APC members in Alimosho. It wants to bring the different factions together to strengthen the party against its opponents in the constituency. According to him, internal divisions had already weakened the APC in the 2023 general elections.
The AFAC 79 president presented its members as descendants of the party’s founders and recalled that they had called for the creation of the Alimosho local government area in 1979, under the governor of Lagos at the time, Lateef Jakande. Babalola also blamed the military regime for some of Nigeria’s problems and praised the administrations of former head of state Yakubu Gowon and Jakande in Lagos.
