Lagos governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat will unveil his election programme on 30 October, building on Bola Tinubu’s political legacy. His campaign team says it aims to preserve achievements while addressing the state’s persistent challenges, Punch reports.

Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Nigeria’s Lagos State and a candidate for governor, will present his election programme on Friday 30 October. The presentation will take place from 3pm to 5pm at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, according to Musiliu Obanikoro, director-general of the Tinubu-Hamzat Campaign Council, quoted by Punch.

The campaign puts continuity with President Bola Tinubu’s political legacy at the heart of Hamzat’s candidacy, while promising to address the state’s persistent challenges. Obanikoro cited transport, housing, infrastructure, security, health and environmental management among the main issues. He puts Lagos’s population at 25 million.

Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defence, said Hamzat intended to preserve policies and projects considered effective, while correcting those that no longer met people’s needs. He gave no numerical targets for the sectors cited; the programme is expected to set out the proposed measures.

The announcement comes as Nigeria prepares for the political milestones of 2027. Tinubu’s campaign council had already prepared for the election campaign launch in Nigeria, according to an article published on 19 October.
