Donald Trump says the United States could launch new military operations against Iran, after several months of conflict between Washington, Israel and Tehran. The US president also called on Iranian leaders to resume negotiations, according to Jamhurimedia, citing his remarks in Florida.
Donald Trump said on Friday 23 October that the United States could launch new military operations against Iran, while opening the way to negotiations with Tehran. “We can carry out other small operations like Epic Fury, or they can reach an agreement,” the US president said at an election rally in Florida, according to Jamhurimedia.
Trump called on Iranian leaders to engage in “serious discussions”, while casting doubt on their willingness to do so. He also said that Operation Midnight Hammer had reduced Iran’s ability to enrich uranium and that Epic Fury had subsequently inflicted further damage on Iran. The White House is meanwhile reducing the number of its diplomats in a Middle Eastern country, as US agencies assess that Iran is stepping up efforts to target diplomats and other US officials in the region and elsewhere, Jamhurimedia reports.
The statement came after the threat of a new US attack on Iran, published on 23 October, and the reduction of US troops in the Middle East, announced on 22 October. Trump had also said in early October that no new attack on Iran would be carried out before the US midterm elections, scheduled for 3 November.
