Nigeria and Cyprus want to deepen their trade, academic and political ties after Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu, Nigeria’s ambassador to Israel also accredited to Cyprus, presented her credentials to Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia on Friday. The diplomat pledged to accelerate bilateral cooperation between Abuja and Nicosia, according to an account of the ceremony.
Nikos Christodoulides cited trade, investment, higher education and political dialogue among the partnership’s priority sectors. He also praised Nigeria’s role in regional integration, economic growth and stability in West Africa, while affirming Cyprus’s desire to strengthen its relations with the continent’s largest economy.
Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu will now meet Cypriot officials, business leaders and the Nigerian diaspora to turn these commitments into economic projects. The initiative is part of a series of recent efforts by Nigeria to attract foreign partnerships, including after its proposal to Chinese banks to invest in its financial markets and discussions with South Korea on economic partnerships.
