Nigeria and South Korea want to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, technology transfer, agriculture and vocational training in order to support growth and create opportunities for their populations. The two countries renewed this commitment at a reception held in Abuja on Friday for South Korea’s national day, according to Vanguard.

South Korea’s ambassador to Nigeria, Jeong Yoan, cited several ongoing projects. An entrepreneurship centre, launched in Abuja in September with Nigeria’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency and the United Nations Development Programme, is intended to support young entrepreneurs and start-ups. The Smart School project has reached about 8,000 children and trained more than 300 teachers and school officials, while an initiative with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations aims to create green jobs in agriculture.

South Korean cooperation has also enabled about 2,000 Nigerian officials to be trained in South Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, Jeong Yoan said. The ambassador called on South Korean companies to increase their partnerships with Nigerian firms, according to Vanguard.
