A woman was killed and two other people injured while harvesting groundnuts on a farm in Gwom-Ajang, Foron District, in Nigeria’s Plateau State. The incident happened at around 4 pm on Saturday, according to Silas Bitrus, a community member quoted by Nigerian daily Vanguard.
Rwang Tengwong, national secretary for communications at the youth organisation Berom Youth Moulders, condemned the attack and called on security forces to pursue those responsible, Vanguard reports.
In a statement issued on Saturday, a coalition of Plateau youth organisations also said it had received information about plans for a counter-propaganda campaign targeting the state’s security services. The group said those behind it wanted to portray joint operations by the Department of State Services (DSS), mobile police and Operation Rainbow as discriminatory towards part of the population. The coalition called for the allegations to be independently verified and said it supported the security forces. Its statement followed a press conference held on 21 October at the headquarters of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Abuja, according to Vanguard.
