Two killed and 115 farmers abducted in Katsina

Two people have been killed and about 115 farmers, mainly women and children, abducted in Faskari Local Government Area in Nigeria’s Katsina State. The attack is believed to be linked to the interception of a ransom intended to secure the release of hostages, according to a resident and activist Shamsudeen Faskari.

Armed men killed two people and abducted about 115 farmers in Faskari Local Government Area, Katsina State, Nigeria. The attack took place on Saturday afternoon as the victims were harvesting their crops, according to a resident quoted by Leadership.

Human rights advocate Shamsudeen Faskari says the attack may have been retaliation linked to the earlier interception of 6 million naira intended to pay a ransom. According to him, members of the joint civilian security force, the JTF, allegedly ambushed the men carrying the money. He condemned the abduction of women and children and called on local authorities to review peace negotiation mechanisms.

The attack is said to have undermined a peace agreement recently concluded with armed groups active in the region. Shamsudeen Faskari believes the process must include clear procedures for resolving disputes and protecting residents. Farmers now fear going to their fields during the harvest season, according to Leadership.
