Robert Olorode, a member of the Western Nigeria Security Network, was beheaded in Kajola, Oyo State, while bringing a ransom of 500,000 naira to free his kidnapped brother. The local traditional ruler confirmed the killing, while security forces search for the kidnappers, according to Leadership.

Robert Olorode, an operative of the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, was beheaded by kidnappers as he attempted to pay a ransom of 500,000 naira to secure the release of his brother Elijah Okeleye in Oyo State, Leadership reports. The kidnappers had initially demanded 15 million naira before reducing their demand after several days of negotiations.

Elijah Okeleye was abducted on 21 October by armed men as he returned from his farm in the Saaji-daada area of Kajola. Robert Olorode went to the kidnappers’ hideout to deliver the money, but they reportedly overpowered and killed him. The traditional ruler of Ilaji-Oke, Oba Jeremiah Oyeboade Oladosu, confirmed the incident and said the victim had been acting as a private individual, not on an official Amotekun mission.

Local security services and police have stepped up their search for the alleged perpetrators. The case has heightened concern among Kajola residents about armed criminal groups operating in rural areas and farming settlements, according to Leadership.
