Forty-four contacts are linked to the health facility and nine were identified elsewhere, according to Jide Idris, Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention is monitoring 53 primary contacts linked to Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola case and plans to provide a weekly allowance of 100,000 naira to each person placed in isolation or quarantine. The agency’s Director-General, Jide Idris, announced the measures in Abuja on Sunday, according to Daily Trust.

Of the 53 contacts, 44 are linked to the health facility where the patient was treated and nine were identified elsewhere, including three members of her household. The authorities are also searching for people who may have been exposed through these contacts. The number being monitored was 44 at the time of the first federal announcement, after the case was confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory on 20 October.

The patient, who had recently returned from Uganda, developed symptoms on 7 October and sought medical attention on 11 October, according to earlier information from the World Health Organization. She is at the centre of Nigeria’s preparations for evacuation abroad. The government had also announced preparations for Ebola treatment centres.
