Joseph Terdoo, manager of an Abuja hotel, died after an altercation with tiler Samuel Nel, who allegedly pushed him against a wooden object. Nigerian police are treating the case as suspected involuntary manslaughter and have opened an investigation, the Federal Capital Territory police commissioner said.
Joseph Terdoo, manager of a hotel in Abuja’s Utako neighbourhood, died after an altercation with an employee at about 5am on Tuesday, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, commissioner of police for Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, announced. Police, alerted by suspicious noises and activity on the third floor, found him unconscious and took him to Wuse District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Daily Trust.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Terdoo was involved in an argument with Samuel Nel, a tiler working at the hotel. Police accuse the latter of pushing him, causing him to fall against a wooden object. Samuel Nel is being investigated for suspected involuntary manslaughter, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi said, urging residents to avoid violence and settle disputes peacefully.
In a separate case in Abuja, police also detained the driver of a Lexus LX570 SUV with a concealed registration plate. The plate bore the words “PRESIDENCY” and the number “10B218 FG”; his documents were deemed forged and the suspect is accused of posing as a permanent secretary attached to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, according to the commissioner.
