Two police officers in a relationship shot dead in Ajaokuta

Two police officers in a relationship, Amos Yusuf and Grace Abraham, were shot dead on 23 October in Ajaokuta, in Nigeria’s Kogi State. Police are investigating the possibility of a murder followed by suicide, after months of tensions between the two officers, according to Tribune Online.

Two police officers in a relationship, Corporal Amos Yusuf and Corporal Grace Abraham, were shot dead on Friday 23 October 2026 in Ajaokuta, in Kogi State, central Nigeria. According to a source quoted by Tribune Online, Yusuf allegedly shot his partner before taking his own life; police have not confirmed this scenario and are investigating the circumstances of the deaths.

Gunshots rang out at around 9pm, a few hours after Yusuf, who was assigned to the local police division, began his night watch. He allegedly left his post to go to Abraham’s accommodation, where she was shot in the shoulder, lower abdomen and leg. The spokesperson for the Kogi police command, Afusat Saliu, said an investigation was under way.

According to Tribune Online, the two officers, who were from Kogi, had known each other for a long time and served in the same place after joining the police in the same year. Their relationship had reportedly deteriorated over several months, with arguments, suspicions of infidelity and threats. Their superiors had allegedly been informed of the tensions; a police officer in charge of criminal investigations had even detained them and advised them to separate.
