The 42-year-old Nigerian Ebola patient was evacuated by medical aircraft from Abuja, according to ARISE News, cited by P.M. News. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed her infection on 20 October, after she arrived from Uganda via Addis Ababa on 3 October and developed symptoms on 7 October.
The Nigerian Ebola patient has been evacuated from the country aboard a medical aircraft, ARISE News reported, as cited by P.M. News on Monday 26 October. The 42-year-old woman was due to leave Abuja at around 6am from the private terminal at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Ambulances and diplomatic vehicles accompanied the convoy to the private aviation area, which was sealed off during the operation. Images broadcast showed a medical aircraft and health workers beside a passenger, but did not confirm her identity. The Nigerian federal government had not officially confirmed the evacuation by the time P.M. News published its report.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the patient’s infection on 20 October. She had arrived in Abuja from Uganda via Addis Ababa on 3 October and developed symptoms on 7 October. NCDC Director-General Jide Idris said on Sunday that 53 primary contacts were being monitored. A suspected case reported in Rivers State tested negative.
The evacuation follows plans for the patient’s medical transfer abroad, reported by P.M. News on 26 October. The NCDC had earlier said that 53 contacts were under surveillance as part of the response to the infection.
