The National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists recorded 13 violations targeting 15 journalists and photojournalists in September, up from eight cases in August. Incitement campaigns accounted for seven cases, while Tunis recorded ten reports, according to the union’s monthly report published on 26 October 2026.

Incitement was the main category, accounting for seven of the 13 cases recorded. The report also counted two obstructions to journalistic work, two prosecutions, one case of harassment and one arbitrary detention. Seven violations took place on social media and six in physical spaces. Tunis accounted for ten of them; the others were reported in the governorates of Ariana, Mahdia and Médenine.

The SNJT reported that journalists had been prevented from covering events or subjected to pressure in the field, particularly during floods and social unrest. The union condemned requests for administrative authorisations whose legal basis was not clearly established, as well as interventions by local officials. It called on the presidency of the government to establish a mechanism for handling journalists’ complaints and asked the Interior Ministry to open administrative investigations and remind security units of the procedural safeguards to be observed during summonses and hearings.

The report recorded violations involving detained journalists, while the SNJT had mobilised for four of them in September (mobilisation for detained journalists). On 12 October, Zied Dabbar came first in the union’s election (Tunisian journalists’ union election).
