Sebastine Hon, the Social Democratic Party candidate for governor of Benue State, condemned the total power cut in the state capital, blamed on a dispute between Jos Electricity Distribution and the local government. He urged the distributor to restore power, saying the blackout was disrupting businesses, hospitals, schools and households.
Sebastine Hon, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for governor of Benue State, Nigeria, condemned the total power cut in the state capital, Makurdi, linked to a dispute between the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) and the Benue government. He described the measure as unacceptable in a statement published over the weekend, according to Daily Post.
Hon said the conflict between JED and the authorities should not penalise consumers. He called on the company to restore electricity while the two sides sought to resolve their dispute through legal channels. According to him, the prolonged outage was disrupting businesses, hospitals, schools and households already facing economic difficulties, and risked damaging JED’s image.
The position came after the publication on 23 October of criticism from another Nigerian candidate, who challenged Sowore’s campaign request at the Presidential Villa.
