MTN Uganda is marketing a Starlink satellite internet offer for businesses, schools and institutions in underserved areas. The service can be used as a primary connection, a backup solution or to provide access in places beyond the reach of conventional networks, according to managing director Sylvia Mulinge, cited by Eagle.
MTN Uganda has started offering Starlink satellite internet to businesses, schools and other institutions in underserved areas of the country. The service, called MTN Starlink for Business, was launched on Wednesday 21 October at Libra International School in Zirobwe, where the operator was already testing the connection, Eagle reports.
MTN Uganda managing director Sylvia Mulinge said Starlink could serve as a primary connection, a backup solution or temporary access at sites without reliable mobile networks and fibre-optic connections. MTN Uganda is an authorised Starlink reseller for the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, and provides local installation, account management and customer support, according to Eagle.
The offer targets the education, health, tourism, agriculture, mining, energy, construction and humanitarian sectors, among others. At Libra International School, headteacher William Sekabembe explained that the school had previously used signal boosters, which were considered costly and insufficient to meet the needs of lessons, online research and its digital systems.
