Transactions by Nigerian and foreign investors on the stock market reached 15.06 trillion naira between January and September 2026, according to Nigerian Exchange Limited’s (NGX) report on domestic and foreign participation in equity trading. Local investors accounted for 89.74% of activity, compared with 10.26% for foreign investors.

Transactions by Nigerian investors rose 102% to 13.52 trillion naira, compared with 6.69 trillion over the same period in 2025. Foreign transactions fell to 1.55 trillion naira, from 1.84 trillion a year earlier, while the foreign share of trading fell from 21.56% to 10.26%, ThisDay reports.

Institutional investors conducted 8.36 trillion naira in local transactions, compared with 5.15 trillion by individual investors. Analysts attribute the rise in part to the decision by the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Nigeria’s pension fund regulator, to increase retirement savings funds’ equity investment limits in February. The limit for RSA Fund I rose from 30% to 35%, while that for RSA Fund II increased from 25% to 33%, according to ThisDay.
