Sierra Leonean pastor and farmer Francis A. M. Mambu has harvested rice on 240 hectares in Bombali District and prepared 1,000 bags for sale in Makeni and Freetown. Agriculture Minister Henry Musa Kpaka praised the farm, which Mambu said supports 600 women and young people in ten villages.
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Henry Musa Kpaka, took part on 23 October 2026 in the rice harvest of Pastor Francis A. M. Mambu on a 240-hectare farm in Makeni. The visit also included an inspection of 1,000 packaged bags of rice ready to be sold in Makeni and Freetown, according to Sierra Leonean website Sierraloaded.
The pastor, who heads the Faith Healing Bible Church, said he had cultivated around 360 hectares of rice this year: 240 hectares in Bombali District and 120 hectares in Bonthe. The farm, launched in 2007 with a hoe and a machete, now supports 600 women and young people in ten villages.
The Ministry of Agriculture is supporting the activity through the Food System Resilience Project, a programme supporting the resilience of food systems. Henry Musa Kpaka assured the pastor of the government’s support and called on other religious leaders to invest in agriculture and mobilise their communities to increase food production under the Feed Salone agenda.
