Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has ordered strict enforcement of Ebola controls at entry points after reports of breaches of protocols. The 22 October directive also calls for stronger surveillance, inter-agency coordination and reporting of violations, according to the ministry, after similar measures were already announced on 23 October.
Nigeria has ordered people to report any breaches of Ebola health controls at its entry points, according to a circular from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare dated 22 October 2026. The document, signed by Permanent Secretary Daju Kachollum on behalf of Coordinating Minister of Health Muhammad Pate, demands the strict enforcement of screening, health declarations and traveller monitoring.
The directive calls on officials to promptly document confirmed or attempted violations, support personnel responsible for enforcing the measures and strengthen coordination between the services concerned. It also warns against any improper interference targeting officials on duty, according to the ministry’s deputy spokesperson, Ado Bako.
The instruction comes after Nigeria strengthened Ebola screening at all its entry points on 23 October. It follows the order to strictly comply with Ebola controls at the borders, also announced on 23 October.
