The Nigerian government orders the strict enforcement of Ebola screening protocols at all the country’s points of entry. The directive, dated 22 October 2026, notably requires health checks, health declarations and the rapid reporting of risks, according to Nigeria’s Ministry of Health as cited by Daily Post.
The Nigerian government has ordered the strict enforcement of screening protocols for Ebola virus disease at all designated points of entry into the country. The directive is set out in a circular dated 22 October 2026 and signed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health, Daju Kachollum, according to Ado Bako, the ministry’s head of information and public relations.
The decision follows concerns from the Office of the National Security Adviser about non-compliance with the rules. The checks must cover screening, health declarations and traveller surveillance. The ministry has also asked the institutions concerned to coordinate their information-sharing in order to promote early detection and rapid responses.
The establishments and agencies responsible for the checks must report any actual or attempted violation through established channels and put monitoring mechanisms in place. The ministry has asked them to allow officers to enforce the protocols without interference. Nigeria confirmed an isolated case of Ebola in a female traveller on 23 October.
