Chad’s Ministry of Public Health and Prevention is strengthening surveillance and preparedness against the risk of the spread of Ebola virus disease after the confirmation, on 20 October, of a case of Bundibugyo virus disease in Abuja, Nigeria. No case has been reported in Chad, the ministry said in a statement dated 23 October 2026.
The measures cover public and private health facilities, communities and the main entry points into the country. They are being implemented with the World Health Organisation and countries in the region, under the coordination of the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, which is to ensure the rapid notification and investigation of alerts.
The authorities are checking the availability of rapid response teams, personal protective equipment and supplies needed for triage, isolation, the treatment of suspected cases and the safe transport of patients and samples. They recommend promptly reporting any symptoms after a stay in an affected area or high-risk contact, limiting contact with others and calling a health facility before going there.
