Salamat government delegate Ahmat Choua Rozi has banned two-wheelers until further notice in Ardo, Mouraye and Siheb after deadly clashes between herders and farmers. The measure aims to control movement and help restore calm, Tchadinfos reports.
The government’s general delegate in Chad’s Salamat province, Ahmat Choua Rozi, has banned the movement of two-wheelers in the sub-prefectures of Ardo, Mouraye and Siheb until further notice, according to Tchadinfos. The measure concerns the Bahr-Azoum department and comes amid a conflict between herders and farmers that has caused deaths and material damage since 18 October.
The authorities intend to help restore calm and control entries and exits to prevent the movement of ill-intentioned people, Tchadinfos reports. The decision was taken in the presence of security officials, Salamat Provincial Council president Issakha Souleymane Abdoulaye and members of the province’s Higher Council for Islamic Affairs.
The conflict has claimed 12 lives and left three people injured, according to a toll published on 20 October. The ban follows calls for calm issued by the prefect of Mangueigne on the same day, after the establishment of a committee responsible for transhumance corridors in Ardo.
