The Chadian Agency for Standardisation found irregularities in nine of the eleven hardware shops inspected in N’Djamena, including underweight cement bags and iron bars thinner than advertised. Those responsible were summoned, while the agency urged consumers to remain vigilant, reports Tchadinfos.
Nine of the eleven hardware shops inspected in N’Djamena failed to meet standards for cement weight and iron bar dimensions on 23 and 24 October. The Chadian Agency for Standardisation (ATNOR), responsible for checking product compliance, found that only two establishments were compliant, according to the agency.
Inspectors notably found cement bags labelled as weighing 50 kilogrammes that weighed between 47 and 48 kilogrammes. Bars presented as measuring 12 millimetres measured only 10, while some bars labelled as 10 millimetres measured just 8 or 7 millimetres. ATNOR summoned those responsible for the establishments concerned and called on users to remain vigilant.
